Springtime is here in Lake Tahoe! In addition to winter sports through the end of May, the warmer weather of March through mid-June bring some special off-season activities and benefits:
Less Crowds
January and February are the peak tourist months for skiing and snowboarding. But starting in March, the crowds start to subside, and by the end of April, the Lake Tahoe area transitions to the slow season (also known as the shoulder season). Enjoy less crowds and a slower pace on the slopes and around town: lift lines are shorter, restaurants become less packed (no waiting for a table!), and activities are rarely sold out. Spring is a great season to get away to Lake Tahoe if you are looking for a quiet mountain getaway and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the winter crowds, but still want to enjoy some of the winter activities.
Lower Nightly Rates
Another great advantage of visiting South Lake Tahoe during springtime is discounted nightly rates. Many hotels and Lake Tahoe vacation rentals companies greatly reduce nightly rates to try to bring in more guests through this shoulder season, especially on weekdays stays. Some lodging companies also offer special deal packages with discounts on local restaurants and activities. Throughout most lodging companies on the south shore, these lower off-season rates typically run through the beginning of April to mid-June.
Warmer Temps
Starting in April, the temperatures begin to warm up. These warmer temps offer phenomenal spring skiing conditions: lighter layers needed on the slopes, and enjoy a bite of lunch or a refreshing beverage outside one of the ski lodges while soaking up the rays. Conveniently, many of the Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard rental equipment shops offer deals during the springtime as well. Warmer temperatures in April and May also bring abundant sunshine and melting snow, which brings out the Lake Tahoe hiking trails boasting gorgeous waterfalls, spectacular views, and wildlife viewing. Late May and early June bring the transition to the summer season. Most of the snow is gone, even more hiking and biking trails are exposed, and water sports like kayaking, boat rentals, and standup paddleboarding start back up again.
