Here are just a few ideas of ways to fill up your New Years trip to South Lake Tahoe.
Pre-New Years Entertainment
Leading up to the New Year, South Lake Tahoe is packed with entertainment, and the Heavenly Village is a hub for outdoor live music. Restaurants such as Basecamp Pizza and California Burger and Azul Latin Kitchen all have a constant stream of talented local musicians playing during the day. When your legs need a break from skiing, head to one of these restaurants, sit by the fire and enjoy free entertainment! They also have corn-hole games set up for kid friendly activities. The local casino’s also have big acts making their way to town. On Thursday, December 29 Harrah’s Lake Tahoe is hosting The Devil Makes Three. This band blends sounds of bluegrass, country folk, jazz ragtime and other styles to create their catchy tunes. MontBleu Resort is featuring comedian Iliza Schlesinger on Friday December 30, 3016. Laugh the night away with this Last Comic Standing winner. Go to ticketmaster for tickets.
Heavenly Holidays New Years Eve Celebration
On the last day of the 2016, head to the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe from 6pm – 9pm and celebrate and early New Years Eve. This celebration will celebrate the East coast New Years Eve rather than Pacific time. Due to this, it is a great event for families with younger children. Walk around the Heavenly Village and watch ice carving professionals work magic with a large block of frozen water and a chainsaw. There is also an outdoor stage and free live concert that goes on during the event. At 9pm Pacific time (midnight Eastern Standard Time), a lit up gondola-ball will ‘drop’ and to announce the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017. The event culminates with a breathtaking fireworks display.
Try Your Luck at the Casinos
After you enjoy the New Years Eve celebration at the Heavenly Village, if you are of age walk to the casinos and enjoy a few more hours of 2016. If you are feeling lucky, why not try your hand at the craps or blackjack table? The casinos are always a fun time on New Years, and the local clubs put on a great New Years Party. PEEK night club at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe is known for big name DJs and great VIP offerings. MontBleu Casino is home to Opal Ultra Lounge, where “fantasy meets reality”. They also have VIP options, and is a great place to dance away the last few hours of 2016.
