Summer in South Lake Tahoe offers something for everyone: hiking, swimming, nightlife, activities, recreation and delicious food. Aren’t there other towns on Lake Tahoe that offer the same, you may ask? And we will say, no! Tahoe South is unique in what we have to offer our summer visitors. Features that no other Tahoe town can compete with. Here are just a few of the reasons why our South Lake Tahoe visitors come back year after year.
A Morning Round of Golf
South Lake Tahoe is home to the ONLY golf course located on the shores of Lake Tahoe, making it one of the most scenic golf courses in the country. If you are an avid golfer, playing a round at Edewood Tahoe Golf Course should be added to your bucket list. If Edgewood does not have your preferred tee time, there are three other courses within the South Shore that you can play at. There are also two just on the other side of the mountains in the Carson Valley. Get a group of friends together and start an annual summer golf trip to South Lake Tahoe!
Water Activities for Everyone
South Lake Tahoe in the summer has many boat rental operations, and many boat tours to get you out on Lake Tahoe. Take a lunch cruise, or dinner dance cruise on the M.S. Dixie II to Emerald Bay. For the more adventurous, rent a jet ski and play in front of Round Hill Pines for an hour or two with your friends. If you want to try standing up on water ski’s or wake board, you can rent a boat with your friends or have a professional take you out and teach. If motors are not your thing, rent a Standup Paddleboard or Kayak and spend the morning exploring the local beaches. No mater what type of vessel you choose, the views from Lake Tahoe looking up at Mt. Tallac cannot be beat. Don’t forget your GoPro.
An Afternoon of Sun and Sand
One thing that no other town on Lake Tahoe has is our long sandy stretches of sand along the shores of Lake Tahoe. Neither the North Shore, nor the West Shore have the beaches that we do on the South Shore. No matter where your vacation rental is located, a sandy beach will not be far away. We have dog friendly beaches, beaches with BBQ pits and campgrounds, beaches with boat rentals and bars in the sand, and everything in between. Fancy a game of beach volley ball? Head to Zephyr Cove or Round Hill Pines. Want something a little more calm, Nevada Beach is your spot. Want to enjoy a meal with the Lake just steps away? The Beacon Bar & Grill at Camp Richardson will suit your needs. Cap off your beach day with a romantic picnic in the sand watching the sun disappear behind the mountains on the West Shore. Paradise doesn’t get much better.
Endless Trails with Spectacular Views

In South Lake Tahoe we have trails for all ages and abilities. The Lam Watah Trail to Nevada beach offers a paved 2.3 mile loop trail to Nevada Beach. This is great for all levels. The Van Sickle State Park trails are also a good option for groups with all hiking levels. This goes under the Heavenly Mountain Resort gondola, and straddles the state line. For those looking for more of a challenge, hike on some of the sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Do an entire section for an all day excursion, or a quick out and back. You can live in South Lake Tahoe for years and never explore all the trails that we have. Looking for a view without the work? Heavenly Mountain Resort offers gondola rides up the mountain in the summer.
A Night of Music, Gambling and Entertainment
Tahoe South straddles the California and Nevada state line. Because of this, Stateline is home to four casinos that offer a wide array of activities and shows and nightlife. On the weekends you can walk through any of our casinos and try your luck gambling, catch a show or just sip on cocktails at one of the casino bars. During the summer, The Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys hosts musical talent that rivals even the most popular concert venue. This summer, we are already looking forward to concerts by Tim McGraw, Steve Miller Band, and Keith Urban. Our South Lake Tahoe nightlife of course is not just limited to the casinos. Our local bars and restaurants constantly host local musical acts on the weekends. One of our newest additions in the Heavenly Village, The Loft, features magic shows a swanky lounge and food and drinks. Catch a cab or Uber and head to the casino corridor for a great night out!
