Being a very fit and active community, South Lake Tahoe has many options for those wanting to hit the gym while they are visiting. Don’t stop your workout routine in the gym just because you are on vacation! Here are our favorite places to get your heart rate going!
CrossFit and Group Training
Taking after CrossFit with the group training gym model, Elevated Fitness has some of the best trainers in town ready to whoop you into shape! Elevated Fitness is also the only carbon neutral fitness facility with dynamic, scientific workouts. Take a spin class and your efforts will generate power! Classes include everything from strength, conditioning, Pilates, spinning and a hybrid of all of them. Utilizing equipment such as kettle-bells, TRX, Viper technology, ropes, sandbags, and body weight movements, you will get an amazing workout without boring machines. Daily drop-ins are $20 (you can try as many classes that day as you can handle). It is conveniently located in the center of town, in the Village Center (where Raley’s is located).
We are lucky in South Lake Tahoe to have two fabulous CrossFit gyms, one on either side of town. Both our CrossFit facilities take after most CrossFit locations over the country, with friendly and knowledgeable trainers ready to provide you with an exceptional workout experience! Classes are generally small, which means you get the best personal training for your workout while on vacation!
South Tahoe CrossFit
South Tahoe CrossFit is located on the California side by the ‘Y’. The drop-in rate is $20/day.
CrossFit Lake Tahoe
This gym is located in the Round Hill Village Shopping Center behind Safeway. Drop-In rate is $15/day.
Yoga and Pilates Studios
Tahoe Yoga Shala
This is a vibrant yoga studio, with an “eclectic” array of methods, classes with a little something for everything. With more than 10 different teachers, the weekly class schedule has something for every level of yoga practitioner. Classes start at 7:00am, with the last class during the week at 7:00pm. Located in the Tahoe Keys, this studio is not far from wherever your vacation rental is located. If you are in town for a few days, there are different options of Class Cards for purchase. Otherwise, the drop-in rate is $15.
The Studio Lake Tahoe
Located in Meyers, this newly renovated studio has a little something for everyone. With a vast array of classes, teachers and class times, you will want to attend more than one class. They offer deep stretch, Hatha yoga and breath classes, aerial yoga classes, hot yoga, Joryboard, Pilates, Prana flow and more. Each teacher brings something unique to their classes, and are always welcoming and knowledgeable about the body. Class drop-ins are either $12 or $15 depending on the class.
Lake Tahoe Yoga
This small studio is located right near the CrossFit Lake Tahoe facility in the Round Hill Village Shopping Center on the Nevada side of town. This tranquil space has daily classes with everything from Vinyasa, Yin, heated, alignment and Healthy Mommies classes. The experience of each teacher shows through in their classes and teaching styles. During with warmer months, beach and stand up paddle board yoga is offered. Drop-ins are always welcome, and are either $12 or $15 depending on the class.
Sierra Athletic Club
It’s a gym with a view! This club is located in the Tahoe Keys, and looks out over the water and the mountains. This gym offers everything from cycling classes, TRX classes, Pilates and more. They also have a wide array of strength, cardio and free weights in the main gym. Daily drop-ins are $15, class prices may vary.
The worlds largest 24 hour gym, this branch of Anytime Fitness is located in the Round Hill Village Shopping Center. The standard equipment includes treadmills, ellipticals, exercise cycles, stair climbers, free weights, plates and more. The do offer personal training and classes in the adjoining open studio. Classes include cycling, Zumba, Yoga, Cardio and Core Blast, and more. If you are not an Anytime Fitness member, drop-ins are only $10 per day.
Don’t forget that if you do go to a workout while visiting South Lake Tahoe, you will be training at a higher elevation. Make sure that you drink plenty of water, and you may find you experience shortness of breath faster than normal. Just remember that you are at 6,000 feet and don’t get discouraged.
