The Celebrities are Here!

The American Century Championship is kicking off at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course this week, and you are not going to want to miss this! There is no other event like this anywhere else. Where else can you look at Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains, while hanging out with celebrities on a golf course? This years’ players list is even better than past years, and our weather is absolutely perfect. For those of you who were here last year, you might remember a few thunderstorms that rolled through (ok, huge power-outage causing thunderstorms). But this year, our forecast couldn’t be any better: upper to mid 70s and sunny!

Not familiar with the tournament? Let us fill you in! For 26 years celebrities who have a U.S.G.A. registered handicap of 10 or less can compete to win a purse of $625,000. The celebrities are both former and current professional athletes and entertainers, which make for an exiting event to watch for spectators! A big part of the championship is raising money for national and local non-profits, with over $4.2 million dollars raised since the tournaments inception in 1990.

I know there are a lot of people out there who would rather watch paint dry than watch a golf game, but this event has more to offer than your regular P.G.A tournament. If you are at the 17th hole you might witness the Celebrity Spray Off or the Closest to the Pin Challenge. These challenges are all to raise money for charities! It is hard to say who has more fun, the players or the spectators!

Spectators can follow their favorite celebrity around the course, or pick a hole and hang out there all day. There is always a large entourage of boats parked by the lake, and an ongoing beach party right off of the course. Tickets are still available day of at the gates, or at our local Raley’s stores. Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottles and lots of sunscreen!
