Weather in South Lake Tahoe during the summer is usually nothing but perfect. However, you may find yourself enjoying a perfect beach day, and then it starts to look like the picture above. But have no fear! Usually these storms will pass through the basin in a few hours, and then the sun will pop back out through the clouds. Until the sun does reappear, you might not want to be outside – so what is there to do in town, you ask? Let’s give you a few ideas!
Go To The Movies
Located right in the village, the Heavenly Village Cinema is open year round and is a great way to wait out a rain storm. Park in the garage located on Lake Parkway in the rear of the theater. You do have to pay for parking in the garage, however when you purchase your movie ticket, they will validate your parking (just don’t forget to ask). Tickets are $11.50 for adults and $8.50 per child. Check out current showtimes Here.
Gamble in the Casinos
If you are the appropriate age, head to the casino corridor at Stateline and try your hand at some gambling! Open 24/7, this is a great way to pass the time when you can’t or don’t want to be outside. With hundreds of slot machines, and table games you will be sure to find something to spend your hours doing! Hopefully you will come out on top.
Play in the Arcade
In the lower level of of Harvey’s casino is a great kids arcade. With everything from air hockey tables, pacman, to a kids jungle gym and ball pit, your kids will be entertained for hours! Send the adults upstairs to the slot machines and let the kids play in the arcade!
Visit a South Lake Tahoe Art Gallery
We have multiple great art galleries here in town and a lot of them are located in the village area at Stateline. Visit the Marcus Ashley Fine Art Gallery and enjoy Dr. Seuss’ artwork and sculptures. In the same shopping center there is the popular Wyland Gallery featuring a marine theme, and the Sun Art Gallery featuring works of David and Connie Hwang. See more galleries Here.
Enjoy Happy Hour
Most of our afternoon storms fall perfectly with the happiest of hours in restaurants and bars – Happy Hour! Recently, our favorite happy hour spot is the brand new restaurant Azul. If you like tequila then this is the spot for you. If you are not a tequila fan, we also have Basecamp Pizza, Gunbarrel Tavern, Kalani’s and Fire and Ice all located in the Heavenly Village. Watch the storm pass through while enjoying a tasty treat and a cocktail.
Head to Tahoe Bowl with the family for an afternoon of epic bowling! They offer 16 lanes of bowling, a sport bar, a great diner, small video arcade, and a pro shop for all of your bowling needs. Lanes are available ‘first come first serve’ and you can always call ahead to check their availability. Visit their Website.
Get a Massage
Probably the most relaxing option, visit one of our high end spa’s for a massage, facial or just a mani-pedi! No matter where your vacation rental is located, there will be a spa nearby where you can relax and unwind. Some popular spots include The Landing Resort & Spa, Body Essentails, Mountain Aloha Massage and the facilities and spa at Push Fitness.
The best part about storms in South Lake Tahoe: the sunsets. This photo was taken earlier this summer after a storm had passed through town. So enjoy some indoor time, and you will be outside playing again before you know it!
