The summer sun is peeking through and the kayaks are coming out of storage. We LOVE South Lake Tahoe in the summer and what is better than lying out at the beach? We listed out our favorite local beaches here in Tahoe and WHY we love them!
Zephyr Cove Public Beach – This happenin’ spot on the Nevada side gets crowded in the summer, but for good reason! There are volleyball courts and horseshoe pits on the beach. Since you are in Nevada, bring your cooler and feel free to drink responsibly. This beach charges for parking, but you can easily park on the main road and walk in.
Kiva Beach – This beach is a favorite among Tahoe locals. It provides a large pet-friendly beach, as well as free parking. The city even provides doggie bags to help keep the beach clean for you and your pets.
North Beach – You may have to pay for parking at this beach, but it will be worth it for access to this location. North Beach is located in Zephyr Cove and is pet friendly. It’s a great spot to throw the paddle board in the water for a full day of activity.
Fallen Leaf Beach – Ok, this beach is not on Lake Tahoe, but one of our staff members RAVES about fallen leaf in the summer. The shallow lake gets much warmer than Tahoe and you tend to avoid the crowds. Park here for free and enjoy easy access to great hiking trails. Hike a few hundred yards away from the main beach and you might find your own private beach to hang out at all day.
Pope Beach – Those who vote Pope Beach know it’s for the convenience. This well maintained beach doesn’t allow pets which can be a blessing for most people. Enjoy the facilities at this beach as well as easy access from your car.
Timber Cove – Timber Cove’s bonus is hands down its central location. Hang out at Timber Cove all day or walk to restaurants, bars, or grocery stores from the beach. Enjoy people watching at this small but active marina. Even rent a jet ski or two!
Baldwin Beach – With plenty of sun and sand, you can hang out at Baldwin Beach literally all day. Bring your umbrella and lots of sunscreen; there is a serious lack of shade here. Great for when you are looking for a local spot for all-day sun.
Nevada Public Beach – During the summer, this location can get pretty crowded. The popular Nevada side allows alcohol on the beach. Stay all day and watch the sunset over the mountains.
