Recently, Buckingham was invited to one of the first of many Base Camp events to come: The Base Camp Dinner Club. Formerly known around the Tahoe locals as “The Block”, this hotel once had its loyal ski-bum returners and hostel-like room setup. Owner, Christian, purchased this ever neglected 50-room hotel, and gave the building some much needed TLC. He seemed eager to retain the “community” atmosphere which is what made “The Block” so popular in the first place.
Several times a week, Christian’s goal is to include what they have named the “Basecamp Dinner Club”. Guests, Facebook fans, Twitter followers, friends of friends and Tahoe locals can ALL sign up to join that evenings’ Dinner Club event. With s’mores roasting on the fire, and a warm and inviting Apre Ski ambiance – all those who sign up will gather around family style dinner table and break bread (or dip bread in melted cheese, as we enjoyed!). The idea, Christian passionately described, was to give the “social, adventurous and young at heart” a chance to embrace each other’s common lifestyle. This dinner club may have what it takes to make a name for itself among the tourists AND locals, alike.
Check out BaseCamp Hotel’s website for more information on how to sign up for this new Dinner Club!
