A very common question we get during the winter months is, “Where can we go sledding on our Tahoe vacation?” Most people are looking for an area to take their children that is open to the public and free. There are a few places we can recommend:
– The junction of Highway 50 and Highway 28 at Spooner Summit has a large sledding area that is very popular. There is a very large hill that goes up quite high for the more daring sledders. There is also a large parking area.
– At the top of Ski Run Boulevard (which is in the middle of town, 1 mile into California from the casinos) there is a large “unofficial” sledding area where a lot of people go. There isn’t sufficient parking.
Heavenly offers an alternative — tubing! You can access their tubing hill at Adventure Peak which is at the top of the Gondola (which is located near the casinos on the California side). After reaching the top, the tubing hill is $30 per person per hour. Tubers must be at least 40″ in height to participate. Also at Adventure Peak is a restaurant and a bar so you can grab a bit to eat and a drink after some fun on the tubing hill!
Here is a video I found with photo slides that will give you an idea of what Heavenly’s tubing hill is like:
