Scenic Hiking in Lake Tahoe

Scenic Hiking in Lake Tahoe

There are numerous trails around the Tahoe basin if you are looking to do some hiking on your Tahoe vacation.  The trails also cater to every different ability level from easy to strenuous.  Hiking on these trails offers a great way to see some of the beautiful scenery and wildlife surrounding Lake Tahoe which is not often seen along the beaten path.  A fact also not known by many Tahoe visitors is there are eleven lakes in the Tahoe area!  Many are accessible by hiking.  The weather conditions can change rapidly, so it is advised that you bring the proper clothing, equipment and plenty of water.  If you are going to venture out into the Desolation Wilderness, you will need to obtain a Wilderness Permit for your hike.

Tahoe Rim Trail

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

There are a few of our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals that are within close proximity to the Tahoe Rim Trail off Kingsbury Grade.  The Tahoe Rim Trail lines the Tahoe Basin, in full, it is 165 miles.  It is a great place to hike, bike, ATV, 4-Wheel, horseback ride, snowshoe and snowmobile.  Located at the end of North Benjamin (off Kingsbury Grade), it has breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains and forest not often seen by South Shore visitors.  From the end of North Benjamin (which turns into Andria), it takes you 12.2 miles over to Spooner Summit and, at one point, above the tree line near the weather station.  It would also be a great place to take your pet for an outdoor adventure.
