There are many Lake Tahoe pet friendly beaches in the area, so it is nice to know good care is nearby. There are various veterinary clinics in South Lake Tahoe, my top recommendation for animal care is Alpine Animal Hospital The staff at this facility is caring and extremely professional when it comes to my pet’s health. In addition, Dog Dog Cat, it’s a full service pet supply store offering a wide selection of animal products reasonably priced.
An Overlooked Venue for Lake Tahoe Weddings
July 27th, 2011A difficult venue to find in Tahoe is a private home or estate for Lake Tahoe weddings. There are limited options around the lake, many of which can be quite costly, leaving little to no choices for the engaged couple working with a modest budget. We offer a number of reasonable venues for Lake Tahoe weddings, and one of our biggest hidden gems is the Tahoe Sky Lodge. Situated on 44 private acres overlooking the Carson Valley, it is the perfect location for complete seclusion and spectacular views not often seen by Lake Tahoe visitors. Only a 20 minute drive to the casino area at the state line, it is very easily accessible to guests attending the event. With a large, level asphalt area, it can accommodate up to 150 guests comfortably, and for extra room (or if the weather doesn’t cooperate), there is a large hangar with roll-up doors.
Also on the property is a quaint, two bedroom house with a complete kitchen, two full bathrooms, a garage and it is completely self-sustaining with its own gas, water, electricity as well as satellite cable and internet; the house can accommodate 6 people comfortably overnight. If you are looking to rent this property for a wedding or event, an overnight stay is not required, but it is definitely allowed — you can rent for as little as one night!
South Lake Tahoe Pet Friendly Beaches? They can be found!
July 14th, 2011The South Shore of Lake Tahoe offers a great environment for visitors to enjoy with their four legged friends. Between the endless accessibility of activities and the wonderful array of restaurants in town that cater to dogs, make sure not forget to Fido when traveling to the area.
Kiva Beach — Located about a ¼ mile west of Camp Richardson off of 89, this is South Lake Tahoe’s premier dog friendly beach. Make a right onto Fallen Leaf Lake, fork left when the road splits, parking is free at the end of the road. Follow the sandy path in the North West corner of the parking lot that will lead you right out to the beach. There is plenty of room to enjoy at Kiva Beach but it is not technically an ‘off-leash’ area so be respectful of others. This a great place to let ‘em run!
Fallen Leaf Lake — Located about a ¼ mile past Camp Richardson, turn left on Fallen Leaf Lake Road. Follow this for about 1 ½ miles until you come to a trail-head parking lot. Here you will be able to access the lake and various hiking trails leading into Desolation Wilderness. The massive snow melt we receive here during winter ensures beautiful waterfalls cascading along the trail throughout. Not to be missed are the Glen Alpine Falls located just a short walk from the trail-head parking lot.
Cove East: Tahoe Keys –This pet friendly trail leading to a beach is located right next to the Tahoe Keys Marina off Venice Street. Turn onto Tahoe Keys Boulevard from route 50 and make a right at your first stop sign, Venice Street. Drive to the cul-de-sac at the off the street and you will find the trail-head. The trail leading to the beach is an easy mile long path surrounded by luscious Lake Tahoe marsh lands. This beach is a great place to escape crowds due to its privacy and lack of material regarding the area. Watch the massive yachts cruise in and out the marina, often casting an entertaining setting.
Bijou Dog Park — A gated dog park, dog watering bowls, benches, and a fire hydrant! An urban pet’s playground is found at this dog park located in Bijou Community Park and is a great place to meet fellow animal lovers. Located on Al Tahoe Boulevard between Route 50 and Pioneer Trail, the park is easily accessible due to its central location in South Lake Tahoe. This is one of the hottest spots in Tahoe to take your pooch.
Regan Beach — Located smack dab in the middle of town, this beach is easily seen while driving on Route 50. Turn down Lakeview Avenue, and proceed through the stop sign. Towards the end of the street there will be an access point on the right side of the road. This is the south end of Regan Beach which is off-leash dog friendly. One of our beautiful, lakefront Lake Tahoe rentals, Blue Waters is located a few hundred yards south of this beach and has a pier extending 50 feet onto the lake. Locate the buoys floating just offshore and try to keep your pet in between them, as this is technically the pet friendly vacation rental area. Regan beach is a wonderful place to play and the easiest accessible beach to South Lake Tahoe.
North Beach: Zephyr Cove — Can you say “epic sunsets?” This beach is arguably the best place on the lake to view the sun set over the Sierra Nevada’s. Drive north on Route 50 past the casino corridor about 7 miles, on your left you will see Zephyr Cove Resort. Park about a ¼ mile up on the lake side, next to the wooden fence. Follow the walking path out to the beach; this northern part of Zephyr Cove is dog friendly! Admire the crystal blue water with your companion and take a dip to cool off on hot summer Tahoe days. Bring your dog, maybe some drinks and dinner, to enjoy a fabulous sunset light show complements of Mother Nature.
There are plenty of great places to enjoy Lake Tahoe with your animal friend, we ask you to be respectful of others and always pick up after your animal. Do your part in keeping Lake Tahoe Blue.

Lakefront Dining, Drinks, and Music at its Finest!
June 15th, 2011It’s no secret that The Beacon Bar and Grill located in Historic Camp Richardson holds home to the best lakefront dining experience available in South Lake Tahoe. Offering relaxed indoor and outdoor seating, this restaurant offers a wide selection of food and drinks guaranteed to satisfy even the most refined palates. Two of our most beautiful South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals are within steps to the restaurant, contributing to your perfect family vacation. The beacon offers live music almost every day outside on their deck from 2-6pm accompanied by an unmatched happy hour voted consistently the best by locals. Their famous ‘Rum Runner’ is the drink of choice (my personal favorite!), bringing tourists and residents together to enjoy this tropical delight. The bar has a great variety of beer on tap that constantly changes for guests to enjoy. Grab some of their delicious fried calamari or a juicy Kobe beef burger to fulfill your hunger and be sure to bring your camera because the sunsets here are the best on the Lake! Farmers Markets Sprouting Up in Tahoe
June 13th, 2011A large reason many of our guests stay in Lake Tahoe rentals is to be able to cook their own meals, whether it is to save on vacation costs or to bring everyone together by having some fun in the kitchen. We do have a variety of grocery stores in the area to pick up all of the goods for your culinary adventures, but for a truly, scrumptious experience, I highly recommend checking out the fresh produce at our weekly farmers markets. Being so close to the San Joaquin Valley (California’s leading agricultural producing bioregion) and other local farms, we are fortunate to have 2 weekly farmers markets here in South Lake Tahoe which offer some incredible produce, goods and crafts. The markets take place during the warmer months, which are typically June, July, August and most of September. The larger of the two markets takes place every Tuesday from 8:00am to 1:00pm and can be found at the American Legion building at 2748 Young Street in the city of South Lake Tahoe — it can be well-seen from Highway 50 (also known as Lake Tahoe Boulevard) across from the Red Hut Waffle Shop. The other market takes place every Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Ski Run Boulevard in between Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail, right next to the Blue Angel Cafe, a great place to stop in for some lunch after you have finished your shopping!
Some of the items that can be found at the farmers markets are (but definitely not limited to) giant heirloom tomatoes, corn (my personal favorite!), berries, lettuces, root vegetables and herbs. You can also find vendors selling products other than produce: breads, pastries, flavored honey, jams, soaps, crafts, meats and cheeses.
Don’t forget to bring cash for the vendors and your reusable shopping bag!
Family-Friendly Fun, Tahoe Style
June 10th, 2011South Lake Tahoe is a top vacation destination for all styles of travelers looking for an array of exciting activities. Many of the guests who come to the area have children who require continual entertainment. The colossal presence of several top Casinos and the party atmosphere they often generate overshadows Lake Tahoe’s more traditional family-friendly activities.
Boating on Lake Tahoe is a one of the most popular activities to do when the sun is shining. There are various boat rental companies situated along the beaches that offer a wide range of water sport options including watercrafts, jet skis, stand-up paddle boards, water bikes, parasailing and plenty more. Jet skis are the most popular choice for guests considering experiencing the thrill of exploring the lake on their own personal watercraft. Many of our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals are equipped with a dock or buoy for the convenience of personal boat access. In addition, kids 5 years old and up can ride on the rear of the craft making this a family friendly activity for children that are eligible. Buckingham Properties extends a 15% off boat rentals to our guests at a local marina.
Biking around South Lake Tahoe can be one of the best ways to see the town. Bikes are available through the numerous rental shops in the area. Some of the more challenging rides such as ‘The Corral Loop’ and ‘Mr. Toads Wild Ride’ are easily accessible off Pioneer Trail just south of town. Paved bike paths are found prominently around the lake with a 12 mile stretch running from Stateline to Cascade Falls offering a friendly environment for all skill levels.
Horseback riding in South Lake Tahoe is another great activity for families to enjoy and is abundant throughout the area. The rides range from basic beginner courses to more advanced trail rides suitable for all age and skill levels. This is a great way to get off the beaten path and enjoy the serenity that Lake Tahoe has to offer. Camp Richardson and Zephyr Cove Resort offer the best horseback riding the South Shore has to offer. If your pace is a bit slower, hay wagon rides are available at the Stateline area.
The hiking found in the Lake Tahoe Basin offers tranquility and marvels that are unmatched elsewhere. The variety of hiking trails suggests the sincerity of the locals, who maintain these commonly frequented trails for all to enjoy. More treacherous routes can be found just outside of town on peaks such as ‘Mt. Tallac’ and ‘Pyramid Peak’. The trails in town, such as the ‘Upper Truckee marsh’,’ Bijou Park’ and Kahle Park offer an easier pace of those looking for a more relaxing stroll. Varieties of wildlife are abundant throughout the area, so don’t forget a camera to capture these amazing instants as you’ll be sure to encounter Tahoe’s summer bloom at its finest.
There is a trout fishing farm for visitors to enjoy located in the middle of town, right on Trout Creek. This activity is fun and exciting for all ages as it requires little to no skill. Heavenly Ski Resort will be running their gondola 7 days a week through September 5th. This service allows visitors to view Lake Tahoe from 9,000 feet above sea level providing extraordinary sights. There are also various activities including snow tubing, rock climbing, hiking and dining that will add anyone’s vacation. Whatever you choose to do here in South Lake Tahoe, make sure that your decisions involve smiles, laughs, and fun for everyone, as your experience here is guarantee to bring you back for more!
