There are many Lake Tahoe pet friendly beaches in the area, so it is nice to know good care is nearby. There are various veterinary clinics in South Lake Tahoe, my top recommendation for animal care is Alpine Animal Hospital The staff at this facility is caring and extremely professional when it comes to my pet’s health. In addition, Dog Dog Cat, it’s a full service pet supply store offering a wide selection of animal products reasonably priced.

South Lake Tahoe Dining

Being able to drive from one end of South Lake Tahoe to the other within 15 minutes, it’s amazing the diverse selection of cuisine we have from so many different cultures.   Ranging from “hole-in-the-wall” places to five-star dining, eclectic menus to simple ones, you will surely enjoy your dining experience while staying in Tahoe.  Some of the types of cuisine the South Shore has to offer are: Chinese, Mexican, Greek/Mediterranean, Japanese, Thai, California Cuisine, steakhouses, Indian, Italian and much more.

Many people who come to South Lake Tahoe tend to cling to the downtown casino area, not knowing there is so much more to the South Shore dining experience than the casino restaurants (which are also very good, don’t get me wrong).  If you have come to the South Shore without a vehicle, taxis are in abundance here and no restaurant will be more than a short cab ride away.

Centrally located in town on the corner of Alameda Avenue and Highway 50 (Lake Tahoe Boulevard) is Sprouts Natural Foods Cafe.  They specialize in healthy foods, some vegetarian, some vegan, some with meat, and they are all delicious.  Offered in hearty portions, their food is very fresh and filling.  They offer a wide range of items: sandwiches, breakfast, bagels, smoothies, homemade soups daily, hot drinks (coffees, teas, espresso drinks and a couple of others), salads and some wonderful specialties.  There is also a kids’ menu a list of extras you can get.  The upbeat attitude and movement of the staff makes for an even more pleasurable experience.  There is dining inside and outside as well as seating at the counter where you can watch the staff whip out culinary delights!  One of my personal favorites is the classic burrito with turkey… and every soup they make!

If you are looking to enjoy some great Indian cuisine while on your Tahoe vacation, I highly recommend Taj Mahal.  Located inside the Quality Inn, the decor is a bit dated, but the food is really incredible.  It is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.  For lunch everyday they offer a buffet from 11:00 – 3:00 (in addition to their regular menu); there are usually a couple of meat dishes and a few vegetarian dishes.  I believe the price is $9.99 for the buffet and the food is absolutely delicious!  My personal favorite buffet dish is the Chicken Tikka Masala.  The lunch buffet items are different everyday and they give you unlimited, freshly made naan bread throughout the meal.  For dinner, they have the same menu as lunch, but they don’t offer a buffet.

The Riva Grill is located on the lake in the Ski Run Marina in South Lake Tahoe.  With a contemporary, nautical decor, it offers a perfect environment for enjoying a relaxing dinner, grabbing some lunch in the Bar & Grill or having one of their infamous Wet Woody drinks while enjoying a beautiful view of the lake!  Their outdoor deck has stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains, and heat lamps to keep you warm while you dine during the cool Lake Tahoe evenings.  During warmer days in the summer months, their tall glass windows that look out towards the water all slide open to give you an outdoor feeling while still be indoors.  Their menus consist of delicious,  California cuisine, and they have a very respectful wine list and full bar.

After a long day on the slopes or a day out on the boat, unwind with some wine at Après Wine Co.  They offer fine wines, tastings and gifts… and now offering lunch!  They have over 50 different wines available for tasting on a daily basis, they serve lunch between 12 – 4 daily and appetizers all day!  The food and wines are delicious.  You can purchase an Après Wine Pass (similar to a debit card) and put it into the Enomatic wine dispensing machines, and choose a wine, wait a second for the pour, then… swirl, sniff, sip and enjoy!  Their wines for sale are organized by region, and the staff is very knowledgeable about every kind of wine (and have tasted every single one!).  There is section in the back with wines under $20 and under $10 if you are looking to spend a bit less.  In the front of the store, they have every wine accessory you could need, and some other goodies too: jewelry, Tahoe collectibles, and much more.

Their calendar is packed with weekly events and they offer a happy hour twice daily on Mondays through Saturdays!  During happy hour, you can enjoy reduced pricing for wine tastings and appetizers.  It is located in the Ski Run shopping center, across the street from the Ski Run Marina, one mile from the casinos.

Bowling in Lake Tahoe

The South Shore has a great bowling alley if you are looking to get out for a night while staying in your South Lake Tahoe vacation rental.  Tahoe Bowl is located in the center of town and is open 7 days a week year round.  Inside they have 16 lanes, arcade games, Lane 17 Sports bar (with a billiard table and large flat screen TV’s) and a Blue Dog Gourmet Pizza… fun for the whole family!

Easter Brunch in South Lake Tahoe

If you are staying in a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental this Easter weekend and are looking to get your guests out for a nice Easter brunch, the Riva Grill is doing their annual Easter Sunday Brunch on the Lake — and it is phenomenal!  It begins at 10:00am on Easter Sunday, April 4th, and goes until 3:00pm.  From traditional Eggs Benedict to Ceviche Shooters with Tortilla Chips, you will be sure to please even the most picky eater.  The Riva Grill is a contemporary, nautical-themed restaurant located on the Ski Run Marina in South Lake Tahoe.  It has beautiful views of the lake from its large windows (that actually slide open during the summer months for a fresh breeze off the lake).  Also during the warmer months, they have a large outdoor dining deck with heat lamps for the cool summer evenings.  They also offer lunch and dinner daily, and have one of the most well-known cocktails on the lake, the Wet Woody, a blended drink… a real must try!
