2011 Lake Tahoe Festival of Trees and Lights

With so many things going on at this year’s annual Lake Tahoe Festival of Trees and Lights, it difficult to find a starting point. The event kicks off the weekend of at December 2nd, 2011 at The Montbleu Resort and Casino with an exclusive ‘Senior Stroll’. This allows for those attendees over the age of 55 to view the exhibition free of charge! General admission of the 60+ professional decorated trees and other holiday assortments is scheduled from 10am until 2pm, all three days of the festival. The always popular ‘Teddy Bear Breakfast’ is a perfect way to invite children to experience in the magic of the Christmas spirit. The ‘Polar Express’ shuttle ride also is a fun way for young visitors and their families to participate in the excitement. Photos with Santa, Silent Auctions, Awards, and Live Entertainment are just a few of the wonderful activities going on at this year’s Festival of Trees and Lights. Saturday evening is capped off by the already sold out black tie affair, ‘Gala Dinner’ featuring a 4 course meal, live music, and a prize winning signature cocktail ‘Winter Skyy’ created by local cuisine “Blue Water Bistro”. Come get your snow dance on and pray for some white fluffy powder, Thursday November 10th, at Opal Nightclub inside The Montbleu Resort and Casino. Sierra-at-Tahoe is hosting their annual ‘pray for snow party’ allowing eager enthusiasts awaiting another La Nina winter to express their inner cravings! Giveaways will be going on throughout the evening, including a full snowboard set up from Rome and a season pass to Sierra! An exclusive pre-party starts at 6pm for Sierra season pass holders, and 7pm for the general public. The mountain is scheduled to open the 24th of November, just in time to burn off some of Thanksgiving calories. With snow in the immediate forecast, this 2011-2012 winter is sure to be another one for the ages. Hogs run wild in South Tahoe!

Hogs run wild at the 21st Annual Tahoe Toy Run, Saturday October 1st, 2011. Hop on your motorcycle and come support ‘Christmas Cheer’, a non-profit organization devoted to providing a holiday experience to many of those who are underprivileged. Riders from all over the map will gather at the Horizon Casino in Stateline, NV to parade along route 50, ending at The Flight Deck Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. The event begins at 12 noon, Admission is free and spectators do not need to have a motorcycle to participate. Musical entertainment will be provided by Tahoe’s own ‘Deep Fried Mojo’. One dona­tion of a new, unwrapped toy or item suitable will be accepted. For more information, call ‘Toy Run’ coordinator Mary Luckel at 530-416-4166 or 530-541-4332. With the weather beginning to change, we can feel the winter holiday season approaching quickly. Come out to the 4th annual O’Neill “Tahoe Fall Classic Paddleboard Race”, this Saturday September 18th, 2011. The 22 mile standup paddleboard race begins at 8am sharp from the Camp Richardson Marina, located next to the Beacon Bar and Grill in South Lake Tahoe. Over 400 participants from all over the world will race across beautiful Lake Tahoe, finishing on the North shore at Kings Beach State Park. This great event is suitable for all ages and experience levels. The race will be followed by free standup paddleboard demos for all to enjoy. Get down at the 2011 Bijou Bash

2011 Bijou Bash | South Lake Tahoe Activites | Arts and CraftsThe 2011 “Bijou Bash” will be held this Saturday September 10th, 2011 at the Bijou Community Park in South Lake Tahoe. The festivities begin at 11am with heaps of entertainment, vendors and exhibits for all to enjoy.  About forty vendors have signed up for the event so far, including crafts vendors, food merchants, and artist’s presentations. In addition to these activities, an array of performances and programs will be displayed by a number of our local talents. Some events include African dance performances, law enforcement exhibits, South Lake Tahoe’s own ‘Derby Dames’, BMX and skateboard demos. For all you dog lovers, there will be a canine parade throughout the park at 12:30pm. Admission to the event is free and parking is located just across the street at Lake Tahoe Community College. The fair is expected to yield about 3,000 visitors and the weather report is calling for scattered shower, so plan accordingly. For more information visit the Official Site.

Tour de Tahoe | Bike Lake Tahoe | South Lake Tahoe Events

The 9th Annual ‘Tour de Tahoe’ is set for this weekend September 11th, 2011. A 72 mile bicycle race around ‘Big Blue’ is one of Lake Tahoe’s premiere summer events. The race is complemented by stunning views of this alpine environment while traveling throughout it. The event will both start and finish at The Horizon Casino in Stateline, NV. There is also a ‘fun for the family’ bike ride and boat cruise. This is a great opportunity for the all experience levels to enjoy the lake by bike. This 35 mile bike ride is followed by a lake cruise on the Tahoe Queen Paddleboat. The Horizon Casino is also hosting an after race pool party for all to unwind and soak up some rays! Late summer into fall is the perfect time to visit, with great weather and plenty of activities. Tahoe South Winter Snow Blast

Many winter visitors to South Lake Tahoe prefer to come during the quieter times to avoid crowds, but find there aren’t as many events going on around town.  Heavenly, Harrah’s and Harveys are joining forces to amp up the events during the non-holiday weekends in South Lake Tahoe this winter.  The series of events is called Tahoe South Winter Snow Blast.  Taking place over the weekends of January 21st, February 25th, March 18th and April 8th, these weekends will be packed with fun events ranging from shows to slopestyle contests at the “Ante Up Park” under the Tamarack Express Chair at the top of the Heavenly Gondola.  Some of the bands coming to Harrah’s South Shore Room are M. Ward, The Dan Band, Cold War Kids, Dawes, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.  There will also be shows on the stage adjacent to the new Tamarack Lodge.
