Thinking of a Lake Tahoe Wedding?

Lake Tahoe Wedding

Lake Tahoe is fast-becoming a popular “destination wedding” location — which isn’t very hard to believe with the lake being such a dramatic and beautiful backdrop any time throughout the year.  Many couples choose to have their Lake Tahoe wedding at a lake front venue for a truly unforgettable view and experience (and photos!).  Some choose a setting higher up in the mountains for a palatial view of the lake and surrounding mountains as a backdrop.  While both venue settings are equally beautiful, booking a commercial venue can get quite costly; some require you to only use their caterer, DJ, etc. which can really limit ways to save money.  Another alternative is having your Lake Tahoe wedding at a vacation rental.  There is great freedom with renting a vacation property: you can choose your own caterers, music, rental equipment companies, florists, photographers, you name it.  Another upside is you can stay in the vacation rental overnight before and after the wedding which will help with getting ready, setting up, tearing down and traveling.  Lake Tahoe rentals also tend to be less expensive than some of the larger commercial venues and they can accommodate the same large groups as well.

Lake Tahoe Weddings

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

A new trend on the rise in Lake Tahoe for weddings is renting a vacation rental to use as a venue.  The primary upside on using a vacation rental is privacy.  It allows you to have a more intimate setting for your ceremony and/or reception versus a commercial venue like a golf clubhouse or casino.  Most allow overnight stays (some may have a minimum stay requirement, so be sure to inquire about that), and some brides find it extremely helpful to have the bridal party stay at the property the night before the wedding to help the “getting ready” process go a bit more smoothly on the big day.  Some brides also enjoy spending the night at the property on the wedding night.  There are also many properties that will rent their facilities for day use only, which is a nice alternative if you have other accommodations in mind.   Often, the properties are large enough on the inside to move the festivities indoors if the weather does not cooperate, it can be very unpredictable in Tahoe.  This also makes an ideal setting for an indoor winter wedding as there are many lake front rentals as well as ones set higher on the mountainside for palatial lake views that can be enjoyed from inside.

The secondary upside on using a vacation rental is cost.  They are often less expensive than booking commercial venues, especially if you are going to have a small guest list.  Some of the properties can only accommodate up to 15-20 guests.  Others can hold up to 150.

The third upside for vacation rentals is freedom.  At a commercial venue, you are often restricted to their allotted time schedule and menu they have to offer.  A private property allows you the freedom to make your own schedule and not feel rushed and to choose your own vendors to make your big day exactly how you want it.  Being a destination place where many people come to get married, Tahoe offers and extensive selection of wedding/event coordinators, caterers, florists, bakeries, photographers, ministers, beauty salons, entertainment and anything else you may need.
