Après Ski Cruise on the Tahoe Queen

A relaxing evening on the Tahoe Queen for their Après Ski Cruise is the perfect way to end a long day on the slopes.  Every Wednesday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, Lake Tahoe’s only authentic Mississippi paddlewheeler offers a scenic, sunset cruise out to Emerald Bay and back with live entertainment, free appetizers and a cocktail.  Tickets are $29 and passengers are welcome to stay on the ship until 8:00pm and $3 drink specials also available.

This elegant Lake Tahoe icon recently underwent major renovations to reflect the allure and luster of the early 1900’s when there was truly no finer way to travel. The Tahoe Queen also  offers daytime scenic cruises that feature a tour through Lake Tahoe history on the way to Emerald Bay and the Sierra Sunset Dinner Dance Cruise, which offers an unforgettable elegant evening cruise complete with famous Tahoe sunsets, breathtaking views, local cuisine and live music. All Tahoe Queen cruises depart from Ski Run Marina.

Tahoe South Winter Snow Blast

Many winter visitors to South Lake Tahoe prefer to come during the quieter times to avoid crowds, but find there aren’t as many events going on around town.  Heavenly, Harrah’s and Harveys are joining forces to amp up the events during the non-holiday weekends in South Lake Tahoe this winter.  The series of events is called Tahoe South Winter Snow Blast.  Taking place over the weekends of January 21st, February 25th, March 18th and April 8th, these weekends will be packed with fun events ranging from shows to slopestyle contests at the “Ante Up Park” under the Tamarack Express Chair at the top of the Heavenly Gondola.  Some of the bands coming to Harrah’s South Shore Room are M. Ward, The Dan Band, Cold War Kids, Dawes, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.  There will also be shows on the stage adjacent to the new Tamarack Lodge.

Dashing Through the Snow…

A unique winter activity I highly recommend adding to your Tahoe vacation is a “one-horse open sleigh” ride with Borges Sleigh Rides.  The Borges family has been offering winter sleigh rides and summer hay and carriage rides for three decades in South Lake Tahoe.  Located near the north entrance of the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa (in the meadow of the old Friday’s Station), the sleigh rides take you through beautiful open meadows and forest, and the driver will add to the experience by pointing out local landmarks along the way.  Make sure to bring your camera as the driver will also take a picture of you and your group with Lake Tahoe as your backdrop!  The rides range from 30 minutes to 1 hour and the antique European sleighs can seat 2 passengers for an intimate ride up to a festive 20 passengers.  Driven by large, Belgian horses, you will really get the feeling of being whisked away to a winter wonderland.  And don’t worry about the cold, they provide warm blankets for snuggling.  They also offer dinner sleigh rides at sunset for a more romantic experience.

The sleigh rides are offered from 10:00am until dusk, weather permitting.
