Easter Brunch in South Lake Tahoe

Monday, March 29th, 2010

If you are staying in a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental this Easter weekend and are looking to get your guests out for a nice Easter brunch, the Riva Grill is doing their annual Easter Sunday Brunch on the Lake — and it is phenomenal!  It begins at 10:00am on Easter Sunday, April 4th, and goes until 3:00pm.  From traditional Eggs Benedict to Ceviche Shooters with Tortilla Chips, you will be sure to please even the most picky eater.  The Riva Grill is a contemporary, nautical-themed restaurant located on the Ski Run Marina in South Lake Tahoe.  It has beautiful views of the lake from its large windows (that actually slide open during the summer months for a fresh breeze off the lake).  Also during the warmer months, they have a large outdoor dining deck with heat lamps for the cool summer evenings.  They also offer lunch and dinner daily, and have one of the most well-known cocktails on the lake, the Wet Woody, a blended drink… a real must try!

Tahoe Rim Trail

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

There are a few of our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals that are within close proximity to the Tahoe Rim Trail off Kingsbury Grade.  The Tahoe Rim Trail lines the Tahoe Basin, in full, it is 165 miles.  It is a great place to hike, bike, ATV, 4-Wheel, horseback ride, snowshoe and snowmobile.  Located at the end of North Benjamin (off Kingsbury Grade), it has breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains and forest not often seen by South Shore visitors.  From the end of North Benjamin (which turns into Andria), it takes you 12.2 miles over to Spooner Summit and, at one point, above the tree line near the weather station.  It would also be a great place to take your pet for an outdoor adventure.

Tahoe Concierge Services

Friday, March 19th, 2010

At Buckingham, we offer a wide range of concierge services and knowledge of the Tahoe area for guests staying in our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals.  But even if you aren’t staying in one of our properties, our Concierge Services page on our website is a great source for information and vendors preferred by us so you don’t need to open the phone book and take a shot in the dark for a salon, ski/board rental equipment, etc.  From private chefs to massage recommendations, we’ve pretty much got you covered.  If not, feel free to call!  And we have extensive knowledge about the local restaurants if you need suggestions in that department as well.

Dog Friendly Places in Tahoe

Monday, March 15th, 2010

If you are staying in one of our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals with your pet and are looking to have an outdoor day of play with Fido, Tahoe’s south shore is actually very limited with places that are pet friendly.  I am frequently getting asked about beaches that allow pets — there aren’t many.  In the middle of town, there is a traffic signal for Lakeview Avenue, turn there.  About half-way to the end, on the right, you will see a sign for public beach access that is pet friendly.  Also, on the Nevada side, the very north end of Zephyr Cove allows pets (unofficially, so be on the lookout).  For this location, I would recommend parking on Warrior Way (approximately 1/4 mile past the resort going east/north) and making the dangerous crossing of Highway 50.  The beach is straight down the dirt paths.  Also, there is a new dog park in the central part of town.  It is located on Al Tahoe Boulevard in the Bijou Park.  It is clearly visible from Al Tahoe Boulevard and that is also where the main entrance for the park is.  There is a large dog area and a small dog area so you don’t need to worry about the little fur person getting trampled.  Bijou Park is also the home of one of South Lake Tahoe’s best disc golf courses; I have seen people there with dogs but only in between Labor Day and Memorial Day when security is not patrolling.  Also, I am not aware of any rules against dogs on the USFS hiking trails which are found all over the south shore.

Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

If you’re looking to add a little excitement to your South Lake Tahoe vacation, snowmobiling is a fun activity that the whole group can enjoy.  There are numerous companies in town that offer snowmobile rides of all levels.  Sierra Mountain Sports offers self-guided or track tours at both the Lake Tahoe Golf Course and Edgewood Golf Course (home of the annual American Century Celebrity Golf).  Lake Tahoe Adventures offers guided tours in the scenic Hope Valley located in the Pine Nut Mountains.   Zephyr Cove Resort also offers guided tours in a very scenic environment, the Tahoe Rim Trial.  Most companies offer clothing rentals for all ages.
